revolution, ayatollah seyed ali khamenei, here sunday, said iran on its domestic scee is
young and energetic and is marching on the road towards a brighter future. addressing a
gathering of the fourth air base personnel and their families in dezful, the leader added
on international scene iran is a powerful and determining country. praising the sacrifices
and devotions of the air base personnel during the sacred defense (1980-88 iraqi imposed
war) the leader said the country owes its dignity to those great people who sactificed
their lives to defend the country's territorial integrity, borders, independence and its

said that the families of the army personnel share the honor and they should be praised

and said that they had stopped the blossoming of talents. however, the islamic revolution
revived the country and its people, he added. the leader earlier today visiting the
shalamcheh region commemorated the memory of martyrs who fell there during the aggression
of the iraqi troops. meanwhile, the leader of the islamic revolution, addressing a large
gathering of local and tribespeople at takhti stadium of izeh said tribespeople who have
proved their loyalty to islam and the country's independence are among the valuable
deposits of the nation. the leader alluding to deprivation of the region said the pahlavi
regime paid excessive attention to the feudals at the expense of tribes and masses of
people. but in the islamic republic masses are considered as the backbone of the system
and the officials are required to solve their problems and remove their

personally offer his sympathy with survivors and bereaved families of more than 30 victims
of a road accident in the province on march 22. a lorry, with 60 teenagers on its
board,
hit a mountain on shahyun-dezful road on monday, march 22. 30 passengers were killed
instantly on the site and 30 others severely injured. all the injured were transferred to
hospitals in ahvaz and dezful. the jubilant people who crowded izeh streets also chanted
slogans to greet their beloved leader to the city.

tehran, march 24, iran -- designation of the year 1378 (started march
21) as the year of imam khomeini by supreme leader of the islamic revolution ayatollah ali
khamenei reveals the importance attached to keeping alive the memories of the late
imam, a
letter by the institute for publication of imam khomeini's works said. the leader in his
new year message announced the designation of 1378 as the year of imam khomeini. the
institute's letter to the leader on tuesday lauded the leader's initiative, also supported
by the president, as accentuating the importance of remembering the late imam in advancing
the goals of the islamic revolution. the institute announced readiness to help realize the
leader's initiative and expressed hope that the year 1378 witnesses further acquaintance
of the young generation with the fruitful life of the late imam.
dezful, khuzestan prov., march 23, irna -- supreme leader of the
islamic revolution ayatollah ali khamenei on tuesday issued a condolence message to
families of monday lorry crash victims. the leader expressed deep sorrow over the tragic
incident which has resulted in 30 deaths so far. the statement also condoled the iranian
nation over the deaths. the leader wished patience for the survivors of the victims and
for speedy recovery of the injured.

ayatollah ali khamenei in mashhad (khorasan province) on sunday called on the iranian
people and officials to be united and avoid doing anything that might create

addressing pilgrims to the holy shrine of imam reza (a.s.) the eighth imam of prophet

year,
ayatollah khamenei cited vigilance and adherence to islam and the path of the founder of

congratulating the audience on occasion of norouz and two great muslim feasts of qorban
(eid-ul-adha) and ghadir khom, the leader said that norouz is the feast that has been
given new meaning by islam. ayatollah khamenei said that although norouz is a feast which
dates back to before the advent of islam, the holy religion has dealt with it wisely and
in a constructive manner, giving it a new meaning. the most important duty of the
government at present is to remove people's problems, especially their economic
problems,
the leader said, adding: ''to perform its most important duties and serve people, the
government needs a calm atmosphere and in order to help the government, people, especially

zil-hajjeh and the start of the new iranian year, leader of the islamic revolution
ayatollah seyyed ali khamenei participated in a ceremony to dust the holy shrine of imam
reza (as), the eighth infallible imam of the household of the holy prophet of
islam.
verses from the holy qur'an was recited during the ceremony, which took place in an
atmosphere filled with spirituality, as the shrine was washed with pure rose
water. the
ceremony was also attended by the custodian of the holy shrine, the representative of the
supreme jurisprudent in khorassan province, the friday prayers leader in mashhad,
hojatoleslam abbas vaez-e tabasi, and a number of leading ulemas. the holy shrine of imam

seen as a major principle and every effort should be made to avoid actions with hazardous
effects on the enviroment. he also called measures regarding containment of deserts as one
of the essential projects incorporated in the third five-year development plan of the

khamenei here on wednesday stressed the importance of preserving and promoting farsi
language in the world. ayatollah khamenei was addressing the second international assembly
on farsi language. the leader said that the rich and eloquent farsi language has
spiritually influenced major parts of the globe, winning nations hearts and bringing them
culture, religion, knowledge and civilization. he further noted that farsi has been a
language of literature, poetry and prose in the indian subcontinent and parts of china,
indonesia and malaysia. the persian language has made much contribution to expansion of
islam, said ayatollah khamenei. islam was introduced to iran in arabic language but was
promoted through farsi language, and major parts of studies in islam have been done by
iranians, he added. therefore, the leader stressed, farsi has had a major role in
expansion of islam and human culture and civilization. referring to farsi language as a
pillar of the iranian national identity, ayatollah khamenei said that farsi is the best
medium for propagation of knowledge, thoughts and rich islamic civilization.
ayatollah khamenei pointed to efforts by western powers to impose their
culture and values on the world through promotion of their language, adding that the
western power measure is a detriment to cultural exchanges involving the worlds richest
cultures. further stressing the importance of exchanges amongst rich cultures of the
world, the leader said the promotion of farsi language is a step in this direction. the
leader called for efforts to enhance the capacity of farsi to meet needs of the time,
adding that researchers and literary people should make efforts to enrich and enhance the
language. lauding the efforts of the farsi language academy, the leader said that in
finding farsi terms for foreign words, the academy "should observe linguistic tastes
and farsi language flavor.'' ayatollah khamenei highlighted the importance of correctly
spoken farsi, further calling on the islamic republic of iran's broadcasting (irib) to
push the cause in the society.
