anniversary of the seal of the divine prophets hadhrat muhammad (sawa) and birth
anniversary of his rightful successors, the sixth imam hadhrat ja'far as-sadeq (as) the
leader of the islamic revolution ayatollah seyyed ali khamenei pardoned or commuted the
prison terms of 1,954 inmates. the inmates were sentenced by the islamic revolution
courts, public courts and military courts. the amnesty was proposed by the judiciary chief
ayatollah mohammad yazdi and endorsed by the leader. according to the sunnite school of
thought the birth of the divine prophet muhammad (sawa) took place on 12 of the lunar
month of rabi-ul-awal whereas the shiite school of thought holds that it was on 17 rabi-ul
awal. the father of the islamic revolution and founder of the islamic republic of iran the
late imam khomeini initiated `the week of unity' (rabi-ul awal 12-17), which is observed
by followers of the major islamic schools of thoughts. the sixth imam and rightful
successor of prophet muhammad (sawa), imam ja'far as-sadeq born on rabi-ul awal 17, 83
hegira (lunar calendar).

seyed ali khamenei said on monday the confidence the people have placed in the judiciary
indicated the extent the justice system has succeeded in carrying out its duties. the
leader's meeting with judicial officials coincided with the judiciary day, which marks the
day on which the then iranian chief justice ayatollah mohammad beheshti along with about
70 ranking officials were martyred in a bomb blast at the headquarters of the islamic
republic party (irp) in 1981.
the leader honored the memory of ayatollah beheshti and the martyrs of the 7th of tir and
that of then president mohammad ali rajaei and prime minister mohammad javad bahonar who
were martyred in another bomb blast on august 30, 1981. on the conflict between the
supporters of the islamic revolution and the counterrevolutionaries, the leader said those
opposing the divine sovereignty of iran were lobbying against interference of religious
leaders in social affairs, because they well knew that establishment of a government on
the basis of islam and the islamic teachings would make the interference of arrogant and
foreign powers in iran impossible.
the supreme leader said the islamic and quranic teachings do not allow the arrogant and
alien powers to interfere in the country, instead, it is capable of mobilizing the people
to stand against the enemy. this is separate from the partisan and political
attitude. the
leader said in the early days of the islamic revolution, the late imam khomeini and the
revolutionary people who had logic strongly stood against the hue and cry of the
opposition currents.
"in the confrontation any individual who resisted the counterrevolutionaries was
subject to various kinds of conspiracy. at last, they (counterrevolutionary
forces)
resorted to terrorism. therefore, what is important today is that the insiders should be
aware of the enemy's plots and the goals it is pursuing," the leader said. the leader
said every individual in the county should have the feeling that the judiciary is working
to protect their rights and bring to justice those who tramples upon the people's
rights.
the leader said the judiciary is working on the basis of sharia law and any part of the
judiciary which does no observe the islamic codes is not acceptable. prior to the leader's
speech, head of the judiciary ayatollah mohammad yazdi gave a report on the performance of
the judiciary and head of the headquarters in charge of commemoration of martyrs of 7th of
tir hojatoleslam ferdowsi-pour outlined the programs to be implemented on the
occasion.
tehran, june 21, irna -- the supreme leader ayatollah seyed ali
khamenei said monday that the most common ground in relations between iran and sudan was
the islamic rule and the two countries' efforts to spread the islamic faith. "all the
hostilities of the global arrogance towards iran and sudan is because the two states
practice islam," the leader stated. he also urged the west to correct its stances
towards iran. ayatollah khamenei made the remarks here on monday while receiving president
of the sudanese national assembly hassan at-turabi. he said showing leniency and trying to
draw the temporary consent of the arrogant powers would not remove these
hostilities.
"the arrogant powers would not be happy with anything less than full dominance and
this is something that the islamic republic of iran will never accept will never show
flexibility towards the arrogance," the leader emphasized. citing materialization of
the islamic rule and opposition with the objectives of the arrogance as two features of
islamic sovereignty, the leader added: "we are proud of islam and we do our best to
materialize the true sovereignty of islam." in its relations with other
countries,
the leader stressed, the islamic republic of iran would consider mutual interests and
encounter all arrogant tendencies. he added that iran would never try to justify its
islamic stands and principles in dealing with the west, adding that it is the westerners
who must correct their wrong stances. prior to the leader's remarks, hassan at-turabi
presented a report on the situation in sudan, citing different plots hatched by the
enemies of islam and underlining the necessity of further unity between the islamic
states.

extinguished, he said, adding, those who succeeded in defeating the Zionist regime are the
heroic children of Islamic resistance in Lebanon. The enemy is trying to create rifts in
the ranks of the resistance, he said and expressed satisfaction over the coordination
among Lebanese groups specially the Shiites.

Parliaments was inaugurated here on Tuesday. The gathering began with playing of Islamic
Republic of Iran's National Anthem and recitation of some verses from the Holy

official and independent meeting of Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union and I wish this
meeting every success. Formation of legislative assemblies in Islamic countries in present
form during the current century has become prevalent, but in principle, Islam is the
harbinger and pioneer of establishing popular consultative governments within the context
of divine revelations and commands, based on divine instructions of "consult with
them in the affairs", the beloved Prophet of Islam sought consultations on important
affairs of the Islamic Government, and if the majority votes went against his
views, in
some cases he chose to abide by his companions' vote. It can be said that this was one of
the secrets of rapid and unprecedented progress of Muslims at the dawn of the history of
Islam. The idea of establishing an Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union is a valuable
initiative by Islamic countries and we should appreciate its sponsors. However what would
guarantee its efficiency, durability and progress, is the reconsideration of the problems
of Islamic World and finding practical solutions to be presented to the governments of the
Islamic countries on one hand and to the Organization of Islamic Conference on the
other,
because resolution of complicated problems of the Islamic World would not be possible
except through active participation of every single Islamic country and collective
international efforts within the context of Islamic institutions such as the Organization
of Islamic Conference. Muslims' role as the standard bearer of world culture and
civilization of a thousand years is a vivid illustration of Islam's capacity for the
development and prosperity of Islamic societies. Frustration with the alien culture and
inclination to return to Islam have become rampant in the Islamic World in an accelerated
manner. In a country such as Iran, Islamic system of government under the leadership of
Imam Khomeini and vigilance, perseverance and bravery of Iranian Muslim people has been
shaped and today Islam is the form and the content of the country's system of
government.
In the other Islamic countries the growing tendency towards Islam and supremacy of the
Islamic values is amazing, but the enemies of Islam are not remaining idle and have risen
to confront Islam, and you honorable representatives of the parliaments of the Islamic
countries should continue your consultations to find ways and means of strengthening and
institutionalizing these tendencies. In view of the relative free nature of legislative
assemblies, away from bilateral and international diplomatic considerations you can review
sufferings and problems of Muslims and voice your concerns about them. Unfortunately lack
of coordination and international cooperation are among the weaknesses of Muslims. Today
the Islamic World is faced with numerous disasters that emanate from the pressures and
atrocities of its united enemies, and the weakness of its divided friends. Having not
relieved from the pain and plight of Bosnian people, we face yet another tragedy in
Kosovo, where Muslim people, under the multiple pressures of both NATO and Serb forces
have been struggling with the horror of displacements, famine, diseases and annihilation
of their Islamic Identity. Unfortunately, the Islamic World has not carried out its duties
towards this grave problem. The dear Palestine continues to be under the captivity of the
oppressive Zionist Regime and its supporters, particularly the United States. The South
Lebanon and Golan Heights are still under the occupation of the aggressors. Afghanistan is
plagued with division and hostility leading the country into further destruction. The
people of Kashmir are living under difficult conditions. Another scourge that is
threatening the Islamic societies, particularly the youths, is the Western Cultural
Onslaught. Audio and visual waves which are worse than warships and warplanes are being
used to disseminate a rogue culture aimed at reassuring the domination of the enemies of
Islam, paving the way for the imposition of unethical values and westernized ideas to
captivate and humiliate Muslims. It is the responsibility of this meeting to find
practical ways to fight against these destructive campaigns, and at the same time adopt
appropriate policies for the promotion of Islamic rich culture, values and
beliefs.
Conveying the Divine Message of Islam to the Non-Islamic World especially to the Western
societies who are frustrated with the defeated materialistic ideas, and are rigorously in
search of spirituality, is also part of the duties of the International Islamic
forums.
Marxism has now been placed in the museums of history, and Capitalism has failed to
address the increasing spiritual needs of people in Western societies. Today the power of
Islam in meeting human spiritual demands is far greater than those of other faiths or
schools of thought. These are a few examples of the problems and needs of Muslims at the
contemporary time, and the distinguished representatives of Islamic countries' legislative
assemblies should find solutions to overcome these complexities. It will be appropriate to
institutionalize the principle of consultation, coordination and Islamic cooperation at an
international level. Our international intricacies would not be resolved without
collective cooperation of Islamic countries. Hopefully, the Islamic World will witness the
day when a common assembly comprising representatives of the whole Muslim Ummah is formed
in order to make important decisions towards the utilization of Islamic tremendous
resources to the best interests of Muslims. I pray to the Almighty God to bestow upon all
of you every success in serving the Islamic nations and the Muslim Ummah.

dastjerdi, head of the red crescent society of iran. in his letter to dastjerdi's

tehran, june 10, irna -- the leader of the islamic revolution, ayatollah seyed ali
khamenei, here thursday accepted a request made by the judiciary chief to commute the
prison terms of a group of prisoners sentenced by military courts. judiciary chief
ayatollah mohammad yazdi in a letter to the leader requested commutation of penalties on
the occasion of the liberation anniversary of khorramshahr on may 24. the letter also
referred to the clause 11 of article 110 of the constitution of the islamic republic
regarding commutation of sentences.
imam khomeini's mausoleum, tehran, june 4, irna -- the supreme leader
ayatollah seyed ali khamenei friday said that `freedom' was a cornerstone of the islamic
movement led by the late imam khomeini which put an end to the monarchy in iran about two
decades ago. "what is said about freedom today is in fact an important part of the
movement initiated by the imam," the leader said, adding: "a group of parvenus
want to teach the imam and the islamic system how to practice freedom of thought and
expression."
ayatollah khamenei made the remarks in his address to a huge crowd of mourners gathered
here to mark the 10th death anniversary of the founder of the islamic republic. "the
imam and his followers fully adhered to the notion of freedom from the outset and they
don't need to be taught by others about this matter," the leader stressed. ayatollah
khamenei in his address also elaborated on the "line and path of the imam."
"after the imam's demise, we announced that we will continue his line and path. this
was not a move out of imitation but rather based nn experience and knowledge. the imam's
path was the path for the salvation of this country from the beginning of the revolution
and later during his lifetime and even today that he is not with us," the leader
noted.
pointing to the characteristics of the imam's line, he said that islam is the most
important feature of this line because the imam did not regard anything to be above islam
in the world. he added that the imam's revolution and movement was for the sake of
sovereignty of islam. this, he said, was in fact the key to imam khomeini's success. in
his emphasis on islam, ayatollah khamenei said, the imam paid special attention to the
people's presence and vote in the absence of vhich, he believed, the islamic system would
not be able to survive. another characteristic of the imam's line, he said, is social
justice and assistance to the oppressed, deprived and bare-footed rtrata in the society.
"they are the same people that the imam regarded to be the owners of the revolution
and the country and they really are," the leader said.
he said social justice is among the main slogans of the revolution and criticized the
"back seat drivers" for claiming that social justice has not been materialized
at all. the leader admitted that social justice has not been fully materialized but said
great attempts are being made by the officials to accomplish this goal as well.
"today the servant government has focussed its attention on rendering assistance to
the deprived regions and we owe this to social justice," the leader stated. another
feature of the imam's line, ayatollah khamenei said, is "not to be deceived by the
enemies." he said islamic iran's enemies are trying to pretend that there is no
hostility towards it. but, he asked, "how can the islamic system which has put an end
to the interests of the arrogant powers, be without enemies?"
he said that iran was a constant target of enemy propaganda as well as its other
conspiracies such as the economic sanctions imposed on it. he added: "what is
unacceptable for the u.s. and other arrogant powers is the independence and vigilance of
the iranian nation for rejecting their policies." he said islam has granted the
iranian people vigilance and for the same reason the people and the system have enemies.
he added that muslims in the region as well as in asia and africa support the islamic
system and love imam khomeini and "again we owe this to islam." ayatollah
khamenei also said that in post-imam khomeini period, the former and present governments,
the judiciary and the legislative powers have rendered great services to the people thanks
to adhering to the imam's line.
he referred to the return of 50,000 iranian prisoners of war taken captive during the
eight year war with iraq (1980-1988) to the country, the disintegration of the former
soviet union which was a "nuisance" in those year, and the people's presence in
the scene particularly in the 1979 presidential elections which brought president mohammad
khatami to power, as some important events over the past two decades that the islamic
republic has been in power in iran.
"we are proud to have a young and lively nation along with committed and sincere
officials running this country," he said and hoped that the path of the revolution
would be continued towards construction and social justice. he said those who are waiting
to see the iranian people turn their backs to the islamic revolution would suffer the fate
of those who thought the young islamic republic would be toppled hn months and those who
imagined that they would be able to conquer iran within a week. "everyone remembers
that they were all slapped in the face by the iranian nation," he recalled. "the
future belongs to this nation, this country and islam and the shining sun of islam is
getting brighter every day," he concluded.

islamic revolution and supreme religious jurisprudence, grand ayatollah seyyed ali
khamenei said here, "the greatest personality trait of the late imam khomeini, the
father of the islamic revolution and founder of islamic republic of iran was piety."
"the first and the final message of the divine prophets and their rightful successors
was also piety as such a trait could pave the way towards the establishment of a pious
society," said the leader. "becoming closely acquainted with the outstanding
dimensions of imam khomeini's unique personality is a must for the new healthy
generation," highlighted the grand ayatollah. "the late imam khomeini was the
manifestation of scientific innovation, expertism in religious jurisprudence and islamic
principles, which captivated the minds of young, wise and active seminarians in his
special classes in qom despite the fact that there were many other prominent islamic
scholars at that time," pointed out the supreme religious jurisprudence. "in
addition, the late imam was a unique scholar of ethics," said grand ayatollah
khamenei. "his other personality traits -sagacity and alertness in political thoughts
became evident during his struggle against the tyrannical regime in the year 1963
(1342)," stated the leader. referring to other dimensions of the late leader's
personality, grand ayatollah khamenei said, "his power to manipulate leadership,
political astuteness and his thorough comprehension of the enemies' intricate ploys were
his other remarkable traits."
"during his fourteen years of exile, the late imam conducted the affairs of the
movements minutely through the followers, the masses without his relying on any political
parties, groups or factions," outlined the leader. "the late imam khomeini
solely depended on his circulars to guide the ummah, chiefly the young generation toward
islamic ideals that culminated in the triumph of this great islamic revolution in
1979," concluded the paramount leader of the islamic revolution.

departure anniversary of the late imam khomeini, ayatollah khamenei said the a ''bright
and promising'' future was awaiting islam and the iranian nation. the supreme leader said
that exaltation and glorification of the late imam khomeini means insistence on the path
the late imam khomeini left for the iranian people and all world muslims through his
uprising, revolution, lessons and will. the leader said that now, thoughts and path of the
late imam khomeini serve as a lesson for people and he is represented as a symbol, teacher
and wise leader in the mind of iranian community. return to pure islam is the focal point
of the lesson given to world muslims by the late imam, said the supreme leader, adding
that pure islam brings independence and real freedom to nations. freedom from
superstitions and ignorance, freedom from unconscious fanaticism and deviation and freedom
from the political, economic and cultural hegemony of the global arrogance are the basic
objectives of islam for muslims in every part of the world, ayatollah khamenei said. the
supreme leader added that islam stresses economic welfare and progress coupled with social
justice and the spirit of equality and fraternity.
elsewhere in his remarks, the paramount leader said the world of islam is suffering from
scientific backwardness and is exposed to arrogant powers' conspiracies to prevent
independence of muslims and their real freedom. the hegemonic and arrogant powers in other
part of the world interfere in the internal affairs of muslim states, trying to keep them
weak, poor and at odds with one another in order to plunder their wealth illegally, warned
the supreme leader, adding that however, inspired by the life breathing message of the
late imam khomeini, muslims can solve their problems through recourse to islam and abiding
by islamic teachings. iranian officials, the leader said, follow the path of imam in their
domestic and foreign policies. ''we are following the policies the late imam taught to the
iranian nation on the basis of islam and the holy quran. we see the remedy to our problems
and hardships in following the path,'' the leader stressed. enemy has launched propaganda
campaign against the islamic system and iranian nation to take revenge on islam, said the
leader of islamic revolution, adding that satanic powers have suffered many blows from
iranian nation's adherence to islam and enemies of islamic iran are now trying to divert
the iranian nation from the illuminating path which has guaranteed its future, but the
iranian nation has stood firm and would follow the path to the end. muslim nations'
aspirations are reflected in the iranian nation and by grace of god hearts of the youth
and the newly emerged generations in all parts of muslim lands have been inclined towards
islam, said ayatollah khamenei, hoping for improvement of muslims' affairs in a near
future.
