tehran, july 30, irna -- basing his friday prayers sermon upon recent
insurgency in tehran, the paramount leader of the islamic revolution ayatollah seyyed ali
khamenei here recalled, ''the head of the centralnintelligence agency (cia) had predicted
last year that 1999 will be a year of some unexpected events in iran which is
unprecedented in the last 20 years history of the islamic revolution.'' ''this, in
fact,
shows that the u.s agency was fully aware of the behind the scene moves inciting the
insurgencies,'' highlighted the leader.
''foreign news agencies have in the past been arranging interviews with individuals that
tended to portray that people were very discontented with the islamic sovereign
state,''
the grand ayatollah pointed out. ''u.s, zionist and british propaganda machinery have been
aiming their psychological warfares such as spreading rumors, distortion of news and
disinformation and misinformation campaigns against the islamic republic of iran,''
enumerated ayatollah khamenei. ''because of this they have ventured to set up the radio
liberty and radio free europe (rl/rfe) to step up assault on iran by allocating a huge
budget of u.s. dlrs. one hundred million,'' deduced the leader of the islamic
revolution.
''such satanic propaganda were meant to free such snakes as the fugitives and counter
revolutionaries from their nests to incite the masses into insurgency,'' the supreme
religious jurisprudent underlined. ''these insurgents tried to show that the different
factions in the islamic republic of iran were in total discord politically peaking and
that each faction had the capability of inciting the otherbinto a confrontation,'' said
the grand ayatollah. ''in fact the real enemies of the sovereign state of the islamic
republic of iran are from outside the borders (or abroad) and those insurgents tried to
depict that there were no foes outside the frontiers but within the nation among political
factions,'' highlighted the leader.
referring to the beefing up of the spy network in the islamic republic
of iran, the friday prayer leader further stated, ''a number of muslim and jewish agents
were arrested in connection with the spying network in iran at the beginning of the
current year.'' ''the u.s and european heads had made several telephone contacts in
relation to the thirteen spies. and that the chain of incidents following that evidently
shows that such incidents are closely inter-twined,'' pointed out grand ayatollah
khamenei. ''one of the presumptions is that recent insurgency were being guided from
behind the scene to ignite the spreading of further unrestbthroughout the islamic republic
of iran,'' the leader argued. ''their conspiracy was based upon the concept that since oil
revenues were down, as the government was faced with economic difficulties and at the time
when people were hard pressed, and imagining that law enforcement forces (lef) and the
islamic revolution guard corps (irgc) were incapable of handling the situation and that
due to the crisis created by recent chains of mysterious murders which has rendered the
information ministry impotent, people would take to the streets spreading unrest
throughout iran," enumerated the leader.
''the insurgencies of july 12-13 were a clear breach of national security. the enemies
tried to use the attack on students in the university hostels as an excuse to spread
insurgency initially in tehran,'' the leader noted. ''i have not come to a clear and
definite conclusion for the logic behind the attack on the students' hostels at tehran
university all its dimensions are not clear to me, however, i think it was a bitter
incident which was hard for me to assimilate as some innocent students were caught unaware
in this attack,'' the supreme leader recapitulated.
''the enemies had miscalculated the current situation in the islamic
republic of iran with that of 28 mordad 1332 (august 19, 1953) as on that day the
lackeys,
thugs and bullyboys took to streets taking everything under their own control thus paving
the way the deposed shah's army to take over. they thought the situation was the same but
this time they did not take the basijis, the peoples and revolutionary forces into
account,'' elaborated the leader. criticizing the hasty reaction of the alien propaganda
machinery, the leader said those who continually speak of human rights referred to these
lackeys, thugs and bullyboys as 'cross section of the iranian nation' and 'reformist
forces'. he exhorted the enemies of the islamic revolution to take lesson from the recent
events and avoid any further confrontation with islam and the islamic sovereign state
which has been established on the will of the people.
the leader advised the people to maintain unity because, ''if faith and unity is
preserved, no enemy can harm the country and the islamic sovereign state.'' while urging
the press to refrain from repeating the desires and words of the enemy, the supreme leader
stated that no one is against freedom of press and that the philosophy embodied in the
islamic revolution is indeed freedom of expression and thought. ''however this freedom
should not be misused to allow a limited few take advantage of it and give priority to the
enemies desires, words, analyses and orientations and then go on to use them as their
criteria,'' declared the grand ayatollah. at the end of the prayers, the worshipers took
part in the funeral ceremony held for 72 martyrs of the eight-year sacred defense period
(iraqi imposed war of 1980-1988).
"the aliens made another mistake in their analysis when they
believed their own earlier propaganda that there are differences between top iranian
officials," noted the leader. underlining that there is no differences between the
authorities of the islamic republic of iran, the grand ayatollah pointed out that
"all authorities of the islamic sovereign state say one word and they have no
differences." "in the recent incident the stances of the heads of the three
branches of the government particularly the stance of the president was hundred percent
confirmed and supported by me," said the leader of the islamic revolution. "i
decisively back the top authorities specifically the president of the islamic republic of
iran and if there is any criticism on the activities of some officials then i discuss them
with the president," he underlined. saying that the aliens were also unable to
clearly understand the iranian political factions, the supreme ayatollah stated that the
aliens thought that in the recent incidents the political parties would stand against each
other but they witnessed that all the political faction were present and supported the

during an attack on tehran university dormitory recently. the supreme leader expressed
sympathy with the students and held talks with them in a friendly atmosphere. the students
also performed their prayers under the leadership of the supreme leader ayatollah
khamenei.
tehran, july 27, irna -- the leader of the islamic revolution,
ayatollah ali khamenei on tuesday expressed condolence to the people of the northern
caspian province of mazandaran on loss of lives caused by floods. in a message to the
leader's representative to the province hojatoleslam sheikh hadi rowhani, the leader
sympathized with the bereaved families who lost their beloved members in the deady
flooding in the past 72 hours. the leader urged the government officials and the relief
agencies to work hard to alleviate the sufferings of those hit by floods. in the
meantime,
the leader designated hojatoleslam ghayouri to convey his condolence to the families of
the victims. the death toll exceeded 40 in the provincial cities of neka, behshahr and
sari and some others are still missing, the relief official in province said.
tehran, july 22, irna -- the leader of the islamic revolution ayatollah
seyed ali khamenei on thursday appointed mohammad forouzandeh, former defense
minister, as
the new head of the mostazafan and janbazan foundation (mjf). forouzandeh is replacing
mohsen rafiqdoost who held the post for two tenures. in a decree issued thursday the
leader thanked rafiqdoost for his efforts over the past ten years and appointed
forouzandeh to head the mjf for the next five years. rafiqdoost's term of office expired
recently. the leader hoped for the success of forouzandeh in his new position and in
making optimal use of the public assets of the mjf in serving the disabled war veterans
and the disadvantaged people.
forouzandeh was born in a worker family in 1953 in abadan, southern
iran. after receiving his high school diploma, he was admitted to tehran's tarbiat-e
moallem (teachers' training) university to study mathematics. he was expelled from the
university due to his political activities against the shah's regime and organizing
students' strikes. with the victory of the islamic revolution in 1979, he was appointed
the director of administrative-political department of khuzestan province and in 1981 was
appointed the governor general of khuzestan. he also played a key role in providing
logistics for the muslim iranian foeces during the sacred defense (1980-88 iraqi imposed
war against iran). in 1986 forouzandeh became the islamic revolution's guards corp
(irgc)
chief of staff to implement the late imam khomeini's order for establishment of three
ground, air and naval forces of the irgc. in 1993 he was appointed by the then president
akbar hashemi rafsanjani as the defense minister. forouzandeh has received two medals of
bravery for his efforts during the sacred defense from the leader of the islamic
revolution.

rioters, the supreme leader of the islamic revolution, ayatollah seyed ali
khamenei,
issued a message addressed to the iranian nation here tuesday night. the following is the
full text of the message:
''the noble and zealous nation of iran; the beloved people of tehran ''it is for two days
that a group of vicious people, supported by certain bankrupt political groups and
encouraged by foreign enemies, have been engaged in corruption and destruction of people's
properties, creating an atmosphere of terror and intimidation and depriving people of
their security and tranquility in tehran. ''the mean and wretched enemies of islam and the
revolution imagine that the revolution and faithful revolutionary people would let them
pave the way for the dominance of the criminal u.s. over our beloved homeland through
their mischievous acts. the subservient and obstinate grouplets, on the basis of the
analysis made by their masters and masterminds, have imagined that the iranian people have
grown tired of islam and the revolution and thus whimsically intend to take revenge from
the islamic revolution. but, they are ignorant of the fact that the faithful, brave and
vigilant nation will not permit them, their masters and their supporters to go on with
their vicious acts and the powerful islamic system will severely crush them down.
''officials in the government, especially those in charge of public security, have been
emphatically instructed to put down the corrupt and warring elements with insight and
power and, no doubt, those who have invested hope in the mischievous acts of these
disgraced elements will be disappointed. the noble iranian nation, the beloved youth in
particular, should vigilantly check moves of the enemy and should fully cooperate with
security officers and drive the mercenary and lackey elements of the enemy into a
corner.
my basiji children in particular should maintain their full alertness and through their
presence in every needed scene, terrify and crush down the wicked enemies. ''i pray to
almighty god for the success of islam and muslims.''

al-Uzma Khamene'i's speech on July 12 about the events in I.R. Iran.

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful. I welcome
you,
my dear brothers and sisters. There is much to be said. But the matter which from my point
of view is more important than anything else and has preoccupied my mind concerns the
attack against the students in their dormitory and the young people [at Tehran University
campus]. This incident wrenched my heart [audience cries].
This incident was an unacceptable incident in the Islamic Republic of Iran. An attack
against the home and residence of a group of people, particularly at night or during
congregation prayers, is by no means acceptable in the Islamic system of
government.
The young people of this country, whether they are students or non-students, are my
children [audience cries]. For me it is very difficult and hard to bear anything which
causes our young people inconvenience, dissension and mishap. It makes no difference who
was involved in this, whether he was a policeman in uniform or a civilian, those who are
in breach of the law and break the law in the Islamic Republic must be dealt with in
accordance with the law. But in the case of someone who has done no wrong and who is
resting in his own home, particularly in a student environment, I have to say that what
has taken place was very wrong and unjustified.
The fact that 100 or 200 people left the university hostel, said things and shouted
slogans cannot be an excuse, cannot be a reason for some people, whatever uniform or title
they might have, to enter the premises and behave inappropriately. This is even more
important when the sacred name of the Law Enforcement Force is involved - any action which
would harm the reputation of the Law Enforcement Force would make matters more
difficult.
As you know, members of the Law Enforcement Force endanger their lives working on the
roads, on the borders, fighting the bandits. Many of them lose their lives in order to
guard our security. Is it fair that the actions of a few individuals should harm the
reputation of these forces for some people?
And it has been reported that some individuals used the sacred names of Hussain and Zahra
to enter the room of a basiji [para-military volunteer] or a war-disabled
student, to
disrupt his sleep and to create that sort of incident. Is it right that the name of
Hussain, peace be upon him, or the sacred name of Zahra, peace be upon her, is used in
this manner?
These actions pain my heart. There are all these pious young people thought out the
country who are devoted to Imam Hussain, who are devoted to Fatemeh Zahra, who are devoted
to Islam, who are devoted to the country, devoted throughout the sacred war, who brave any
danger that might threaten the country. Is it right that a few individuals should use
those sacred names and cause this incident? This was a very bitter, incident for
me.
Of course, I have stressed that the incident should be investigated. The honorable
president and other government officials are to appoint an investigation team. I support
this and I might appoint someone to the team. The team should investigate the
incident.
I want to make several points. One point is addressed to the students, another to all the
Iranian people, another point is addressed to you, the young people, and another point is
addressed to the enemy.
What I have to say to the students is this: Watch out for the enemy. Try to know and
recognize your enemy. Don't ever be complacent or negligent about knowing your
enemy. Try
to recognize and know the strangers who, dressed up as your friends, seek to infiltrate
your ranks everywhere. Try to see the invisible hands. Try to see the invisible
hands.
No one will ever be honored or praised for being negligent. No one will ever be praised or
eulogized for shutting his eyes and turning away from reality. If a careless or negligent
person receives a blow, he has no one but himself to blame. So you need to take care and
be vigilant. Students are an honorable and valuable sector of our society.
Our students are being targeted by our enemy. For many years our enemies have been trying
to make our students take a confrontational stand against the political establishment in
this country. They [the enemies] have not succeeded. And they're not going to succeed in
the future either. [The audience express its approval by chanting "Allahu
Akbar", "Allahu Akbar", "Allahu Akbar", "Khamene'i is our
leader", "death to the enemies velayat-e faqih", "death to the
US", "death to Israel" and "death to the hypocrites"].
They shouldn't think that if a few infiltrators use an opportunity to fish in troubled
waters and infiltrate the student community to say things and shout a few slogans we are
going to make mistakes. No, we are not going to make any mistakes. We know our
audience.
These students are our children, they belong to us, they belong to this country. It is the
enemy who wants to infiltrate the student community and commit acts of corruption in their
name. The students should be vigilant themselves. Who are these people who want to misuse
this time of the year, this sensitive season, the time of university exams and the
university entrance test?
At this time of year, all families who have a young student try their best so that their
young student is able to concentrate on the exams and the university entrance test. Who
are these people, who are the enemies of the future of this country and its universities,
who are diverting the attentions and creating diversions? They are encouraging the
students to stay away from their class, to stay away from the exams, to hold rallies. Who
are these people? Students should be the first people to open their eyes and make a
decision.
I also want to address the Iranian nation: Oh great and brave nation! For 20 years you
have kept out the enemy which was ousted by the revolution. You did not give the enemy the
chance to return. You should be vigilant now. I have said repeatedly in the recent years
and I say it again. I tell the Iranian nation, its officials, everyone: The enemy is
trying to infiltrate and they will come through any opening that they can find. You should
maintain your vigilance. The enemy is targeting our national security. National security
is the most important thing for a nation. If there is no national security the government
will not be able to work, there will be no construction. No problems are going to be
solved if there is chaos and insecurity. The people's economy, the people's cultural
issues, their social issues, their political issues, all these will be destroyed if there
is no security and this is what the enemy wants. Iranian people everywhere should
understand this, and they do understand it. Bihamdillah, the nation is vigilant.
I would like to say something to you young people. My dear young ones, you are the hopes
of the revolution and Islam. Your behavior can quickly move this country so it blossoms.
When the young people of our country express themselves, make decisions and act cleverly
and adroitly, when they show forbearance and pay attention to opportunities, then the
whole country will make great progress. When blind enthusiasm is involved, however, the
enemy will immediately take advantage of the situation. I have said this repeatedly, and I
shall repeat myself, I believe that young people in this country should be present in all
arenas. However, they should have discipline.
The moves which we witnessed, namely certain people's attack on the university, was caused
by a lack of discipline. It is wrong regardless of the name under which it is done. It
should be condemned. Even if it is done in the name of defending religion, it is still
wrong. It is also wrong if it is done in the name of defending velayat. Have I not said
repeatedly that no one should resort to violence even at the gatherings of the opponents?
That will make the enemy happy. We have repeatedly said this. Why did they not listen? Why
do they not listen? Even if something which makes your blood boil happens, you should not
resort to violence.
Let us say that they insulted the leader [audience cries]. You should still be patient and
remain silent. Even if they burn and tear up my photograph [audience cries], you should
remain silent and preserve your strength for the day when the country needs it. You should
preserve it for the day when the young, faithful and hezbollahi force stands up to the
enemy [audience cries]. Now, let us say that a young person or a deceived student said or
did something. It does not matter. I forgive him [audience cries heavily].
I would like to say something to the enemy as well, regardless of who it is and where it
is. Our chief enemies who have planned these things are in the spy agencies of the world.
What was the money which the American Congress allocated to fighting against the Iranian
system spent on? In fact, a much greater amount was spent. Well, it is quite clear that it
was spent on carrying out such planning. Those enemies should know that the dream of
returning America to this country is a nightmare which will never come true. [audience
chants: "Allahu Akbar", "Allahu Akbar", "Allahu Akbar",
Khamene'i is our leader, death to enemies of velayat faqih, death to US, death to the
monafeqin and Saddam, death to Israel - death to US, death to US ]
There are those who have been lying in ambush for 20 years. They are among the despicable
internal elements. They are the ostracized and hated political elements who were extracted
and thrown out by the nation like a rotten tooth. They have been lying in ambush for 18,
19 or 20 years to take their revenge on this nation, the Imam [Khomeini] and Imam
Khomeini's name and path. They should know that they have made a mistake. They made a
mistake during this affair as well. They betrayed themselves. They exposed their faces. It
is true that they dealt a treacherous blow to our intelligence machinery. In this case,
they also dealt a blow to our law-enforcement machinery. However, the committed servants
and the dedicated unknown soldiers of the Islamic Republic will gather the necessary
intelligence. They know who is where and what they are doing. They cannot use such methods
and prevent the people from fighting for their independence and their beloved Islam. They
cannot prevent them from fighting against their enemies.
I should say one thing to the various political factions. You gentlemen who are the
leaders of political factions and tendencies should now understand what we told you. We
told you that when you, the insiders, fight each other over nonsensical matters, the enemy
will take advantage of the situation. Now you can see what has happened. That was one
example. Did you see how the enemy took advantage of the situation? Abandon such
activities. Of course, we do not mind if there are different points of view and political
differences. We do not insist that everyone should think the same way. However, you should
define limits to your political activities and political infighting. You should draw a red
line and a limit. Do not fight each other without paying attention to important matters,
because then you would be so busy that you would permit the enemy to enter the arena.
Look at the kind of uproar which was created over the press bill and various other issues.
Look at the fighting. The only thing that mattered was the issue of factionalism. What was
it all about? Because a bill was being passed by the Majlis.
I am not referring to a particular political current. I am addressing everyone. For me
there are no differences between political factions and tendencies. For me the criteria
against which everything should be measured are the path of God, the path of the Imam
[Khomeini], the path of Islam, protecting the country, taking into consideration the
interests of the people and protecting the future of the country. Those are the things
which are important to me. It does not make any difference to me whether a certain person
belongs to faction A or faction B. I am saying this to everyone. You should be vigilant as
well.
The last thing which I would like to say is about our Imam and leader, the Lord of the
Age, may our souls be sacrificed for him [reference to Imam Mahdi] [audience chants: May
God's peace and benedictions be upon Muhammad and his progeny ]. O our Sayyed and leader
[audience cries], you are our witness before Almighty God [audience cries] and you can
witness that we are prepared to defend God' s cause until our last dying breath [audience
cries]. My greatest wish and achievement would be to sacrifice my life in pursuit of this
glorious, beneficial and promising path [audience cries heavily]. God willing, Almighty
God will make you successful. May God's peace and blessings be upon you [audience chants:
we are not like the people of Kufa, to leave Ali alone].

supreme religious jurisprudent grand ayatollah seyyed ali khamenei here monday told a
gathering of thousands of students that, ''the attack on tehran university students'
dormitory, under whatever pretext, is an unacceptable act which is condemned.'' grand
ayatollah khamenei termed the incident as 'bitter and unacceptable in the sovereign state
of the islamic republic of iran'. ''dear brothers and sisters - welcome to this
congregation - a lot needs to be said but the most important issue in my opinion and the
thing that has been preoccupying my mind is the attack on the student and youth hostel.''
''this bitter incident has deeply saddened me and i regard that in the islamic republic of
iran such an incident as unacceptable. Attacks on homes, residences and living quarters of
the students, specifically at night or at the time of prayers, is not at all acceptable in
the islamic sovereign state.''
''the youths, whether students or otherwise, are regarded as our children. any act that
could lead to their anxiety, unhapiness and the issue which foments misunderstanding, is
very difficult for me to digest,'' the paramount leader observed. ''whoever, be it
military personnel or otherwise, has committed such a blunder in the sovereign state of
the islamic republic of iran must be dealt with accordingly,'' declared the grand
ayatollah. ''however it is a great blunder and act of cruelty to attack those who were
resting in their homes and have not committed any offenses particularly those young
students in their dormitory,'' highlighted the leader.
''it is not a good excuse or a legitimate permission for some to enter the precincts and
act in that manner in whatever rank, position or station they may be, when a group of
hundred or say two hundred students from tehran university hostel take to the street and
chant slogans,'' the leader declared. ''this is particularly a difficult situation when
the 'sacred' military force is involved thus becoming the cause of its disrepute. you know
that our military forces today are whole-heartedly and relentlessly engaged in different
operations on the highways and the borders effectively containing the bandits and
outlaws.'' ayatollah khamenei pointed out. ''we also know a large number of these
personnel were martyred during the operation in order to maintain the nation's security,''
deduced the leader.
''anyway, should this be considered fair when the profile of those faithfully serving the
nation be tarnished due to imprudent acts of some?'' commander in chief of the armed
forces asked. ''or else is it appropriate to enter into a room of a basij or a disabled
student in the name of 'ya hossein!' or 'ya zahra!' and disturb his sleep?" the
leader further asked. ''is it right to bring about such a deplorable incident?'' the grand
ayatollah questioned. "such things deeply perturbs me," said the leader.
"out pious youths have defended the nation during the eight year sacred defense in
all the instances calling the name of 'ya hossein!' 'ya zahra! with pure emotions,"
remarked grand ayatollah khamenei. he added that they had been in service of islam and the
nation throughout.
"it is really bitter for me to observe that some acting in a disreputable way in the
name of those pious youths who had acted as the shield at the time when the nation faced
various dangers," underlined the leader. "anyway, i have ordered that a precise
probe be conducted regarding this incident. "the honorable president of the islamic
republic of iran, hojjatoleslam seyyed mohammad khatami and other authorities are expected
to form a probing committee and that i may send someone as a representative in this
committee," stated the leader.
supreme religious jurisprudent then addressed the students advising them to be aware of
the enemy's plot. "the enemies have always tried to target the university students
with the objective of forcing the students to stand against the islamic sovereign state;
however their ploys have failed," said grand ayatollah khamenei. "the enemy
wants to infiltrate among the students and in their name breed corruption and
destruction," underlined the leader. turning to the nation, the leader of the islamic
revolution said, "if there exists no national security, then no government can
function effectively. there would be no reconstruction; no solutions could be applied to
resolve the nation's problems in the economic, cultural, social and political areas."
"this is what the enemy has exactly targetted upon," pointed out the leader.
addressing the youth, the supreme religious jurisprudent stated, "you are the hope of
the islamic revolution and that as the asset of the nation you are capable of turning iran
into a flourishing country." "you should not allow the enemy to tap your
emotions for its own benefits, for instance if someone acts insultingly towards the
leader, or either tears or burns my picture, you should maintain calm, keep silent and
show patience," outlined the leader. "you should preseerve your strength,
stamina and potentiality for a rainy day when the nation would be needing your assistance
to stand against the enemy," advised the leader. in his speech turning to the enemy,
the leader stated, "i would like to pose this question that where has the
twenty-million dollar budget that the united states has allocated to be used against the
islamic republic of iran been spent?" "it is clear that this type of budget has
been spent for such purposes," stressed the leader. "the enemy should know that
there is no place for the united states in the islamic republic of iran," concluded
the leader.

now you reach to what we say. When you insiders clash with each other on futile issues,
enemy misuse that. See this is one example. Did you see hoe enemy benefited? Did you see
how enemy stung [you]? Put aside the differences in styles and politics. Off course, we
are not insisting that every body thinks the same way, but [you] should put a limit and a
red line for political works and clashes. Don't struggle with each other with no account
[limit] so that become too busy to let enemy come this way and enter to these fields. What
hue and cry occurred for this press law issue. On the other issues, what melee and fights
occurred. All [are] line and lines issues. For what? Because a law is passing in
Parliament!
I am not referring to a specific political line. I am talking to every one. For me this
and that political line and taste are indifferent. For me, the measure is the God's path,
Imam's path, Islam's path and safe guarding the country and observing the peoples
expedience, and saving the future of the country is important. It doesn't matter for me
that, this person is from faction A, and that person is from faction B. I am talking to
every body. You too be alert.
I say my last sentence too to our Imam and our imitated leader, Valiye Asr (Arvahona
Fadah). Oh our master and our Moula, testify in front of God almighty that in the path of
God we are standing to our last breath. My ultimate wish and pride is to give my life in

seyed ali khamenei said on monday, "what i tell the students is to watch and identify
the enemy.'' the leader also called on the students to beware to identify enemies.
''strangers disguised as friends come among you. identify them. you should look out for
hidden hands. no one is admired for negligence. ''when a blow is dealt on a negligent
person, he is the primary person responsible for the damage... be careful. the students
belong to a honorable strata of society. the enemy has targeted the students. in the past
few years.''
the leader of the islamic revolution also said that the enemy has worked hard to pit the
students against the islamic republic, but of no avail. ''when some infiltrators took
advantage of an opportunity to fish in the troubled waters and entered student circles,
making some slogans and uttering some words, they should not think that we will make
mistake. no we will not make a mistake. we know our audience and our enemy.
''the students are our children who belong to us and to the country. this is the enemy who
wants to do mischief by infiltrating the ranks of students...the students themselves
should be vigilant," the leader said.
ayatollah khamenei said that during this sensitive season when students are to take their
final exams and young applicants are to sit for entrance examinations, which hands and
which enemy are trying to deviate the youth and dissuade them from studying. ''here, the
students themselves are the first ones who should open their eyes and decide,''the leader
said. ayatollah khamenei said, "i tell the iranian nation that you, the brave nation,
have kept behind the door the enemy which had been driven out of the country by the

the country. "give more care. the enemy has now targeted our national security.
national security is vital to a nation. in the absence of national security no government
can work, nor can a stone be laid on the other for construction," the leader said.
the supreme leader said due to chaos, no economic, cultural, social and political problem
in the country can be solved. "in the absence of security, every thing is destroyed.
the enemy has targeted this. the iranian nation in every part of the country should
realize this. thanks god, the iranian nation is vigilant."
ayatollah khamenei said, "i tell you, the youth that you are the hope of the
revolution and islam. your behavior can lead the country towards progress rapidly. when a
young individual speaks and decides with meditation and patience, the country will become
prosperous. "when the blind emotions appear, the enemy will take advantage of it. if
you heard even a word which makes you angry, for example, if they uttered an affront to
the leadership, you should keep silent," the supreme leader said.
the leader told the youth, "reserve your power for the day on which the country will
need it, the day on which the young and faithful forces should stand against the enemy.
don't mind if a young individual deceived by the enemy utters some insulting word.
however, i forgive him."
the leader said ''but i tell the enemy whoever and wherever it is, our main enemies in
spying networks are the designers of these plots.'' ''where is the money allocated by the
u.s. congress to campaign against the islamic republic of iran, spent? no doubt that the
budget and a sum several times this budget are spent on such schemes against iran,"

seyed ali khamenei said here monday that the tragic incidents at the tehran university
campus over the recent days were "unacceptable in the islamic republic of iran."
"this bitter incident hurt my heart," said the leader at a meeting with a group
of people.
as a result of clashes between university students and counter-demonstrators backed by
security forces, dozens of students were injured and many others arrested by the law
enforcement forces. extensive material damage was also inflicted on the student
dormitories where the clashes took place on friday and Saturday. the unrest which began on
thursday continued on Sunday as well.
"i have a lot to say but the most important thing that has preoccupied my mind is the
attack on the dormitories of the youth and students, in the islamic system, it is not
acceptable at all to attack the house and shelter of a group, particularly overnight or at
the time of congregation prayers." "the youth of this country, whether students
or not, are my children and it is very difficult and bitter for me to see them embarrassed
and upset."
the supreme leader stressed that any violator in the islamic system will be dealt with
"no matter in the garb of law enforcement forces or else." "violators in
the islamic system must be dealt with, but it is very wrong and unjust to encounter
someone who has not committed any violation, someone who is resting at home, and that too
in a youth student environment." the leader said the fact that one hundred or two
hundred people take into the streets from the university campus to utter some words cannot
provide an excuse and authorization for others in whatever garb or under whatever name, to
enter their place. the leader said the issue becomes more difficult when the "sacred
name of the law enforcement forces" is involved in a wrongdoing which would cause
their disgrace. "you are aware of the self-sacrifice of the law enforcement forces
around the country, at the borders, on the roads and in encountering bandits and know how
much trouble they take. many of them have lost their lives to safeguard our security, is
it fair to do something to tarnish the image of these servants in the eye of some people?
"is this right for some people to enter the rooms of basiji or students in the name
of (imam) hussein (as) or (hazrat) zahra (sa), wake them up and create those kinds of
incidents? the sacred name of imam hussein and fatemeh zahra presses one's heart, there
are so many devoted youth in love with imam hussein and fatemeh zahra and in the service
of is islam and the country everywhere throughout this land. they were the ones who were
always in the front-line during the sacred defense (iraqi war) and would do the same
whenever there is a threat against this country, then some people create such incidents by
using their names which was indeed very bitter .for me. of course, i have emphasized that
investigations be conducted into the matter."

universities said that the suspicious event at tehran university dormitory
has hurt the heart of the leader of the islamic republic of iran ayatollah

leader's representation council expressed regret over the incident and
voiced their sympathy with those injured in the suspicious incident. the
statement strongly condemned the acts of several members of law
enforcement forces and irresponsible elements who invaded the dormitory of
tehran university apparently to stop the students' gathering in protest at
