congregational prayers here since the victory of the islamic revolution said in his second
sermon that the broadcast and print media in iran must dwell on the details of the
agreement for the information of the people of iran so that they would know its true
implications. he said the americans had worked hard to bring about the agreement between
the palestinian authority and the zionist regime to make good on the current immorality
scandal that had plagued the u.s. president. he said additionally the american diplomacy
for the middle east, too, had proved ineffective which justified every effort on their
part to strike an agreement between arafat and the zionist regime as a foreign policy
success for them. he said the (wye plantation) accord committed the palestinian authority
to arrest and prosecute every struggling palestinian and report it to a zionist court on a
bi-weekly basis a task which, he said, had hitherto been the duty and the preoccupation of
the zionists. the leader of the islamic revolution said since its creation by the
americans and the britons in 1948, the zionist regime had felt insecurity on the occupied
lands, and commented that the accord now commits yasser arafat to maintain guarantee
security for the occupiers of the palestinian lands.
ayatollah Khamenei said the zionist regime is out to offer only a
one-way deal with the people of palestine, that is, to allow them to live in their home
country only on condition of being servants of and subservient to the zionist
regime. he
hoped that the people of palestine and strugglers for the cause of god, and the moslem
world would get back the genuine dignity and the station that they deserve.

singled out the press as having a grave responsibility to safeguard the nation's

the two which would serve as a foundation for an emotional attachment throughout their
common life.

guidelines on political activities by university students. ayatollah Khamenei stated
that students should not be indifferent towards issues pertaining to their
societies. for instance, the leader asked, how can they be indifferent towards presidential elections or
problems caused for the country by arrogant powers? students should care about and ponder
the issues and subsequently adopt positions on them. for instance, they should have a
stance towards the palestinian issue, about what happened in bosnia-herzegovina or

tehran, oct. 7, irna -- leader of the islamic revolution ayatollah
seyed ali khamenei said on wednesday that certain conspirators misusing freedom of
expression should be confronted. in a meeting with officials of the construction jihad
ministry, the leader said certain elements have embarked on sabotage in the government's
economic programs, launching an offensive against the security, cultural and military
structures in an attempt to undermine
the main pillars of the islamic republic of iran. the supreme leader
said the conspirators are trying to weaken the youth's hope for their future and misuse
every means to strike a blow at the islamic republic. the leader said expressing views
different from that of the government is something and treason and conspiracy are
something else. ''we have said time and again that expressing views on every issue is free
and those having objections to the government's plans are entitled to publish their
objections and no one will stop them. but there exists a fundamental difference between
objection and sabotage,'' the leader said.
the leader said, ''if someone brings under question the legitimacy of
the islamic republic in his or her writings and questions the sacrifices and the bloods
dedicated for the cause of islam, it is in fact a conspiracy. critique and criticism of
the government's policies are not bad, but, when someone attempts to undermine the
foundations of the government it is a treason and not freedom of expression...the enemy's
hands are seen in such practices.'' the leader said, ''some wrongdoings are perpetrated by
ignorant friends who are not enemy. but i earnestly ask them to open their minds and think
it over and recognize who is the enemy today? what it wants? what it does? what it plans?
the wisdom requires us not to do something that may benefit the enemy. why are you doing
the enemy's job? our emphasis on having a political analysis is because it prevents
someone from making mistakes.
ayatollah khamenei warned the enemies under the mask of friends do what
they can to tarnish the upcoming elections of the assembly of experts. ''the global
arrogance seeks low turnout in the (october 23) elections. this is what everyone with any
political attachment can understand and stand against it. therefore everyone should
participate in the election to indicate the people's presence on the country's political
scene,'' the supreme leader said. the leader said massive turnout in the elections has
always insured the country, disappointed the enemy and neutralized foreign conspiracies
against iran.
ayatollah khamenei called on the political wings and those faithful to
the islamic revolution and the late imam khomeini to put aside their differences and
demonstrate their solidarity in the elections for the 86-seat assembly of experts. ''i

islamic republic, but, i ask all political wings right, left or moderates to put aside
brother-with-brother differences and not to allow the enemies to misuse their
discrepancies,'' the leader said.

late imam and the ministry's employees who sacrificed their lives for construction of the
country. ayatollah khamenei reiterated the almighty's help for the iranian nation in
critical situations. the almighty has always helped the iranian nation until now and is
kind enough to do so again, the leader said.
Tehran, Oct. 1, 1998 IRNA - The leader of the Islamic Revolution,
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said here Thursday that the main objective behind all
propaganda launched by the arrogant and Zionist propaganda machines is to weaken the faith
of the young generation and their emotional bonds with main centres of the Islamic
republic.
The supreme leader made the remark in his message to the second
nation-wide congress of Islamic associations of university students which kicked off here
today.
The leader added that indications of this ominous and, god willing,
futile attempt can be seen in the cultural, news and propaganda activities of the
identified and unidentified enemies of the Islamic republic.
Based on a deep analysis which is the outcome of the experiences of
foreign political strategists in the past two decades, all enemies of the Islamic Iran
have reached the conclusion that the only way to dominate the Islamic republic and
infiltrate the system is to weaken the faith of the young generation, their emotional and
mental bonds with the main centres of the Islamic republic and their educational motives,
the leader concluded.
tehran, oct. 1, irna -- the leader of the islamic revolution, ayatollah
ali khamenei, thursday stressed the need for planning by the high management council of
the qom seminary to respond to religious and political questions.
the supreme leader said that at present a new atmosphere has been
created in iran offering harmful attitudes as well as ambiguous religious and political
questions. simultaneous with this new atmosphere, foreign radios are constantly raising
suspicious and ambiguous questions and are encouraging their elements to do the same
inside the country.
raising questions is not bad in itself and is sometimes a blessing in
disguise because this compels some persons to give answers to such questions, the leader
said. using its past experiences and by making planning, the seminary can give accurate
responses according to the needs of the time to questions relating to the ideological
bases of the islamic republic and religion, the leader said.
ayatollah khamenei also laid emphasis on long-term and medium term
planning and policy-making by the seminary. the supreme leader also stressed establishment
of orderly and regular contacts between the qom seminary and the youth, the educated ones
in particular, saying that the council must make planning for loser and more sincere
contact between the youth and the theologians and prevent opportunists from creating a
spiritual wall between
these two main strata of the society.
the leader also termed as valuable and essential presence of ulema
among university students to respond to their questions.
